The Prix de l'Arc de Triomphe

The Prix de l'Arc de Triomphe is a Group 1 smooth horse contest in France open to thoroughbreds matured three years or older. It is run at Longchamp over a detachment of 2,400 metres (about 1½ miles), and it is planned to obtain position every year, generally on the first Sunday in October.

Traditionally referred to as the "Arc", it is one of Europe's mainly impressive horse races. Its turn of honour skin many highly commended horses, and its winners are often afterward regarded as champions. It is currently the world's third richest turf race, behind the Melbourne Cup and the Japan Cup.
