Prix de l'Arc de Triomphe History

The Société d'Encouragement, a former regulating body of People from French racing, had originally limited its competitions to thoroughbreds created and meticulously in France. In 1863, it released the Huge Corrt de London, a conference designed to bring together the best three-year-olds from any nation. Three decades later it presented the Corrt du Conseil Public, and worldwide competition for the top farm pets of different age categories. It was run over 2,400 meters in Oct, with loads identified by a horse's past activities.


The development of a third such competition was recommended at a panel conference on 24 Jan 1920. The new occasion would supplement the Huge Corrt de London and provide as a display for People from portugal thoroughbred reproduction. It would have similar features to the Corrt du Conseil Public, but each equine would contend on equivalent conditions, unpenalised for past triumphs.

Coming in the awaken of World War I, it was made the decision that the competition would be known as after the Arc de Triomphe, a popular monument which had been the landscape of a success celebration by the Companions in 1919. The selected headline had been formerly allocated to a minimal occasion at Longchamp. Another recommended headline was the "Prix de la Victoire".
